This complex of karst cavities is particularly known for the variety of shapes of stalactites and stalagmites, for their extension -the path is over one kilometer long-, and for the discovery of traces of homo sapiens by more than 12,000 years ago and rests of ursus spelaeus about 25,000 years old.

A little further away, 12 km from the village of the other caves are equally worthy of note. These are the caves of Borgio Verezzi, the path of the caves is about 800 mt. They have a variety of settings with intriguing limestone forms, including, for example, some stalactites “skew” that seem to go against gravity, even if , in reality, is the cave to have shifted over the millennia.
In these caves were not found human traces. Instead, there are bone remains of animals that do not live in Liguria Today: rhinoceros, elephant, tiger, crocodile, bear, mammoth, but who lived there more than half a million years ago.

The area of the Varatella Valley overlooking the town of Toirano (only 10 min. by car from Ceriale) is characterized by many rocks and caves where you can climb and hike carried by the wild sound and the beauty of eagles and hawks.
Today the climbing areas are 27 and more than 500 trails.
Concerning this area the climber and the tourist in general can suddenly notice that the rocks are decorated with the nice and original paintings of the local artist Mario Nebiolo, who is not only a painter but of course also a good climber. After many artistic experiences he has started the “Acrobatic Painting”: he has started to imagine bigger and bigger human figures, simple characters such as the old peasants and miners and paint them on the rock, using spikes and climbing training.
